Job Overview:
The Area Manager is responsible for achieving key organizational goals of the distribution center through the efficient use of staff and systems on a day-to-day operational basis. This role holds full responsibility for implementing and executing all operational programs, policies, and systems within their department.
Responsibilities:
- Owns safety performance for all direct reports and leads any EHS event investigation to closure
- Participates in proactive programs/committees to prevent EHS, quality, and team engagement issues
- Ensures compliance with EHS, quality, and employee relations guidelines
- Drives continuous improvement by eliminating waste and process variation
- Utilizes Lean Six Sigma tools to optimize cost, efficiency, and product integrity
- Conducts internal audits and assists in external audits while managing findings cost-effectively
- Communicates and addresses customer-specific requirements
- Leads shift start-up and contributes to daily production meetings
- Uses labor plans to optimize service and cost
- Tracks and responds to daily performance demands
- Develops short- and long-term plans to meet customer needs and mitigate risks
- Acts as first line of support for WMS Level 1 issues
- Creates current and future state value stream maps and identifies Kaizen actions
- Identifies cost-saving projects in material/conversion areas
- Minimizes scrap and rework through risk identification
- Secures funding and performs ROI analysis for projects
- Supports financial planning processes
- Builds a culture of ownership and accountability through coaching
- Promotes effective communication and employee relations
- Executes thorough candidate evaluations in hiring processes
- Empowers teams by linking metrics to business goals
- Fosters a culture of inclusion and consistency
- Demonstrates and enforces company values at all levels
- Performs all other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Associate’s Degree or higher in Logistics, Operations Management, Business, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience) preferred
- 2+ years of management experience in a distribution center environment preferred
- Experience in Lean manufacturing or Six Sigma preferred
- Knowledge of automated DC systems and RF technology preferred
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel
- Strong analytical, reasoning, and organizational skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to understand and retain complex operational processes and systems
- Mathematical and data analysis capabilities
